Mechanism of Action
Ibuprofen: It is a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in prostaglandin (mediators of pain and fever) and thromboxane (stimulators of blood clotting) synthesis via arachidonic acid pathways. It inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2. Inhibition of COX-2 decreases synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, fever, and swelling.
Paracetamol: Paracetamol primarily raises the pain threshold in the central nervous system (CNS) by inhibiting COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3 enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis. Its antipyretic properties result from direct effects on the hypothalamus, promoting peripheral vasodilation, sweating, and heat dissipation.
